Red Deer, Drogheda Co. Louth

Ireland has three species of deer that are well established throughout the island: sika, fallow deer and red deer.

Red deer are the largest land mammal found on the island of Ireland.

The red deer rut begins in September and lasts until around early November. During this time, competing males, pumped full of testosterone (see image 2 below), will engage in a series of behaviours aimed at showing off to the hinds (female red deer) and establishing dominance over the other stags.

See below my favorite images I have taken of our Red Deer.

How I captured these images

In most cases I will have my GoPro with me and document how I capture my images, white capturing footage of the subject.
